Esports is a quickly growing and ever-changing industry, which has made it difficult to stay on top of it all. The near-billions of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournaments and constantly rotating “popular” titles might scare away some, but worry not I have 4 great ways to help keep you in the know.

1. Esports Insider

This is the website that I spent most of my time on when I first got into esports. They have an enormous catalogue of articles that cover anything from partnerships and legal battles to industry overviews and game specifics. Their website is especially beginner friendly and will help new followers of esports to learn the basics of the industry. Once you have your bearings you will find that their information goes quite deep and that you can gain a thorough level of understanding through just this website. A huge plus to this website is that they are constantly writing articles that will help you stay up to date.

If you are just getting into esports, start off by searching for a specific game that you might like and read those articles.

2. theScore esports

If videos are more your style then theScore esports YouTube Channel is a great place to go. Their large group of creators make some very informative and entertaining videos that cover the main beats in the industry. One nice feature of the channel is that their videos cover topics in a way that will help you become familiar with some of the more nuanced parts of esports. At times theScore esports might feel unprofessional, but it really is some of the most informative esports content around.

If you are just getting into esports, watch videos that seem interesting and then go from there.

3. Twitter

It’s hard to recommend any one social platform over the others, but twitter has really become a great place to receive constant news and updates. Search for the game you want news on and then follow related pages. Once you become familiar with commonly used hashtags and other popular accounts you can branch out to build your own esports relevant feed. Just to give some examples; I follow @theScoreesports for general news, @RLEsports for Rocket League news, and @GhostGaming for news specific to their organization. The continuously flowing information on Twitter combined with the knowledge you will get from my previous two recommendations is sure to keep you up to date.

If you are just getting into esports, start by searching and following accounts since hashtags are overwhelming and diluted with unrelated content.

4. Live Content

If you would rather be informed about a specific game than the industry as a whole then live content held on sites like Twitch or YouTube is the perfect next step for you. A quick search will show you where you can watch upcoming events like tournaments or press conferences. Make sure to follow or subscribe to the accounts so you don’t miss these events down the road. A great way to track competition dates for specific game is this calendar from ESI. Once you become familiar with when and where these events are happening it will become very easy to quickly tune in to them.

If you are just getting into esports, make sure to follow game specific accounts to receive updates on when events will be happening.

Mix and match these to find how you most like to receive your news and you will become well-informed in no time. If you have found your own way of staying up to date let me know in the comments below!
